Better chance having a successful job as a cosmetologist or going into PR/marketing in Michigan?

I’m planning a career change, but since I live in Michigan (where the economy is in a really pitiful condition), I’m not sure what would be a better option–going back to college for PR/marketing or doing what a majority of my friends have done and getting my cosmetology license. I know that people will always need their hair cut–but can you really make a successful career out of it? And with PR/marketing, would I be paying for school just to end up having to move out of state to find a job? Serious responses, especially from those in Michigan, greatly appreciated.
